As the renowned exhibitions “Van Gogh” and “Antonio Ligabue” approach their final month at the Revoltella Museum, Trieste has seen an unprecedented influx of art enthusiasts. The Van Gogh retrospective, which opened on February 22, has already attracted over 110,000 visitors, making it one of the most attended exhibitions of 2024.

With the exhibition set to close on June 30, reservations continue to pour in, resulting in several days being completely sold out. The extensive queues outside the Trieste museum underscore Van Gogh’s enduring appeal and the meticulous planning behind the exhibit, which has received high praise for its intimate and emotionally resonant portrayal of the artist’s life and timeless work.

The exhibit features over 50 masterpieces on loan from the Kröller-Müller Museum in Otterlo and the National Gallery of Modern Art in Rome, offering visitors a comprehensive journey through Van Gogh’s oeuvre.

Similarly, the “Antonio Ligabue” exhibition has captivated the public, celebrating an artist often referred to as the “Italian Van Gogh” for his poignant and tumultuous life story. Initially scheduled to close earlier, the exhibition has been extended to June 30 due to popular demand. It showcases over 60 pieces, including oils, drawings, and sculptures, marking the first exhibition in Friuli Venezia Giulia dedicated to Ligabue.

Adding to the allure is the city’s promotional initiative “Trieste Gives You the Great Exhibitions,” which incentivizes cultural tourism. Through this program, visitors staying at least two nights in participating hotels receive a complimentary FVG Card. This special pass offers various benefits, including free entry to both the Van Gogh and Ligabue exhibitions. Details on the promotion can be found at Discover Trieste.

Supported by PromoTurismo FVG and the Trieste Convention and Visitors Bureau, the initiative has further boosted tourism, drawing art lovers from around the world to experience these extraordinary exhibitions before they close.

As the clock ticks down, Trieste stands as a testament to the enduring power of art to inspire and unite, with Van Gogh and Ligabue continuing to leave an indelible mark on all who visit.
