It was a historic day for Monfalcone as the inaugural voyage of the maritime transport season to and from the city set sail promptly at 8:30 a.m. Leaving from the Nazario Sauro pier, the Delfino Verde vessel reached the Northernmost Point of the Mediterranean, on the Valentinis canal, in just over an hour, before departing back to Trieste at 10:15 a.m.
Monfalcone mayor Anna Maria Cisint, aboard the vessel, remarked, “For our city, this marks a dual recognition: of its burgeoning tourist allure, an increasingly vital facet for our region, and the prominence attained by some of our marquee events in recent years. Our strategy to position the city as a magnet for visitors is enriched by this new venture, a testament to collaborative efforts involving regional infrastructure councilor Cristina Amirante and councilor Antonio Calligaris, who have embraced and propelled Monfalcone’s newfound prominence.”
The newly inaugurated maritime terminal at the Northernmost Point of the Mediterranean provides an idyllic setting for this endeavor, serving as a nexus for tourism, recreation, and cultural exchange. Monfalcone emerges as a pivotal point of reference, welcoming sea-bound travelers and embracing a burgeoning maritime culture, while also accommodating cyclists keen to explore the coastal beauty.
In addition to fostering tourism and recreation, the initiative underscores a commitment to sustainability, with plans for a dedicated cycle path linking the maritime terminal to key transportation hubs, promoting eco-friendly modes of travel.
The schedule features departures from Trieste at 8:30 a.m., 12:00 p.m., and 3:45 p.m., with return trips from Monfalcone at 10:15 a.m., 2:00 p.m., and 5:30 p.m., offering convenient access for commuters and tourists alike.
Until September 29, locals and visitors can indulge in a novel travel experience, traversing the coastal expanse between Trieste and Monfalcone, via the Delfino Verde ferry boat, enriching their understanding of the region’s diverse offerings.
As the maritime season unfolds, Monfalcone will play host to a myriad of events accessible via sea, from the renowned Barcolana regatta to festive Christmas markets, underscoring the city’s vibrant cultural tapestry and its newfound prominence in the regional landscape.
