In a troubling development, Trieste has reported its fifth case of Dengue fever in a matter of weeks. The latest individual to contract the virus recently returned from a trip to Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates. The patient is currently receiving treatment in the infectious diseases ward at Maggiore Hospital.

In response to this outbreak, the local government has swiftly enacted measures to curb the virus’s spread. Following established protocol, the municipality issued an ordinance to commence disinfestation operations aimed at eliminating the mosquito population, which is responsible for transmitting the virus.

The designated disinfestation zone encompasses sections of the Servola, Valmaura, and Chiarbola districts, within a 200-meter radius around Vicolo della Salvia. Key thoroughfares, including portions of Via Baiamonti and Via Capodistria, fall within this targeted area.

To minimize disruption, authorities have scheduled the disinfestation to occur during nighttime hours. Specifically, the affected area will be closed to traffic from 4 to 6 AM between tonight and Monday.

This proactive step is intended to mitigate the risk of further infections and to protect the public from this potentially serious illness. Local residents are urged to take precautions and to stay informed about the ongoing health measures.

The recurrence of Dengue fever cases has raised concerns among health officials and the community. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and are prepared to implement additional measures if necessary to ensure public safety.
