“In a couple of years, Barcola will be revolutionized,” Scoccimarro added. “Our goal is to make it a fantastic place for everyone, enhancing its charm and accessibility.”

In addition to these local projects, Trieste is looking beyond its borders, drawing on its maritime tradition to spearhead a broader initiative. The city is exploring the creation of an administrative body dedicated to the Adriatic and Ionian seas. This body would be tasked with implementing comprehensive maritime policies, fostering cooperation among coastal nations, and addressing shared challenges such as environmental sustainability and economic development.
“This Central European initiative aims to reinforce our commitment to the sea,” Scoccimarro explained. “By creating an administration for the Adriatic and Ionian seas, we can ensure cohesive and effective policies that benefit all countries involved.”
