The ShorTS International Film Festival, now in its milestone 25th edition, is once again shining a spotlight on the budding cinematic talents of Trieste and Gorizia’s youth. The festival, renowned for its diverse programming, continues its tradition of fostering young filmmakers through its Shorter Kids’n’Teens section, a dedicated platform within the festival. Additionally, the festival collaborates with EstEnergy to host the Share the Future artistic contest, focusing on environmental sustainability.

The Shorter Kids’n’Teens section features a curated selection of 20 short films from around the globe, including works by students from the CSC – Centro Sperimentale di Torino. Curated by Manuela Morana, these films are chosen by a panel of young cinephiles from local primary and secondary schools who participate in the “Cinema in cursive” film literacy program. The screenings, scheduled for July 2nd and 3rd at the Teatro Miela in Trieste, promise a captivating journey into the imaginations of the next generation of filmmakers.

Among the highlights of this year’s lineup are tales of courage and adventure, such as “Lizzie and the Sea” by Mariacarla Norall, which delves into the depths of the ocean to conquer fears, and “La notte,” a whimsical tale of mystery set in a Venetian palace. The selection also includes thought-provoking narratives like “Impossible Maladies” by Alice and Stefano Tambellini, exploring the absurdities of medical treatments, and “Archang3l,” a visually stunning journey through a psychedelic future.

In addition to the screenings in Trieste, the festival extends its reach to Gorizia, offering a special selection of films at the Kinemax on July 4th in collaboration with the Sergio Amidei Award. Audience members can also participate in the festival by joining the jury for the ‘Kids’ and ‘Teens’ categories, providing valuable feedback and insight into the next generation of cinema.

Meanwhile, the Share the Future contest, now in its fourth year, invites young artists from Trieste and Gorizia to envision a greener future through their artwork. Sponsored by EstEnergy, the contest challenges participants aged 11 to 15 to depict sustainable living practices, with the chance to win the latest generation iPad. Entries range from hand-drawn illustrations to digitally created artworks, each conveying a message of environmental stewardship and innovation.

The ShorTS International Film Festival, supported by Mic – Direzione Generale Cinema, Regione Friuli Venezia Giulia, Comune di Trieste, and other partners, continues to be a beacon for young talent in the cinematic landscape. As it celebrates its 25th anniversary, the festival reaffirms its commitment to nurturing creativity, fostering dialogue, and inspiring the next generation of storytellers.
