On Friday, June 14, at 4:00 PM, the University of Trieste will host a significant round table discussion titled “Wars, Migrations, and Peace: Italian Strategy and Multireligiosity in the New Africa,” as part of the international symposium GeoAdriatico. The event, taking place in the Sala Atti Cacciaguerra, is open to the public with free admission.

This forum, a pivotal event within the symposium, aims to tackle some of the most pressing issues of our time: conflicts, migrations, and the quest for peace. The dialogue will center on Italy’s strategic approach in Africa and the intricate tapestry of multireligiosity on the continent, analyzed by a panel of distinguished experts.

The list of speakers includes Giuseppe Dentice, Head of Middle East-North Africa at CeSI; Federico Donelli, Professor of International Relations at the University of Trieste; Luciano Larivera, former Secretary for European Affairs at the Jesuit European Social Centre; Malvina Savio, a Buddhist nun; Massimo Zaurrini, Director of Africa e Affari; and Matteo Valentinuz, an official of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). Maria Kochetkova, Editor-in-Chief of InTrieste, will moderate the discussion.

The round table seeks to delve into the dynamics steering Italian policies in Africa, a continent marked by both remarkable cultural and religious diversity and substantial challenges, including armed conflicts and migration flows. Insights from these experts are expected to shed light on Italy’s initiatives aimed at fostering peace and stability in the region, emphasizing the contributions of various religious communities.

GeoAdriatico, running in Trieste from June 13 to 16, addresses essential themes such as diplomacy, economy, science, and religion. In an era defined by global crises and escalating tensions, the symposium strives to place dialogue at the forefront of political, economic, and cultural decision-making, providing an unbiased platform for discussion.

Friday’s round table offers a rare opportunity to deepen understanding of African dynamics and Italian strategies, promoting an open and constructive debate.

By bringing together diverse voices and perspectives, GeoAdriatico underscores the importance of collaborative approaches in addressing the complex challenges of our time. As the world grapples with ongoing conflicts and migration crises, events like this highlight the critical role of informed dialogue in crafting effective, humane policies.
