Amidst the historic backdrop of Trieste’s Circolo Marina Mercantile Nazario Sauro, the Festival APPRODI will launch its eighth edition with a poignant homage to jazz icon Chet Baker. Scheduled for Friday, June 14th, at 9:15 PM, the festival will feature an original production blending music and narrative, directed by Lorenzo Acquaviva and underscored by a jazz quartet led by Giorgio Pacorig.

Entitled “Arrivederci Chet,” the event promises to capture the essence of Baker’s storied career and tumultuous life, celebrating his enduring influence on jazz music. Renowned for his distinctive trumpet sound and poignant vocals, Baker left an indelible mark with classics like “My Funny Valentine,” which have become timeless treasures of 20th-century music.

Reflecting on Baker’s legacy as a central figure in the “cool jazz” movement of the 1950s and 60s, the festival aims to portray both the artistic brilliance and complex persona of the “James Dean of jazz,” known not only for his musical prowess but also for his personal struggles.

The lineup features acclaimed jazz pianist Giorgio Pacorig on fender rhodes, accompanied by Matteo Sgobino on guitar and vocals, Francesco Minutello on trumpet and flugelhorn, and Alessio Zoratto on double bass. Lorenzo Acquaviva will weave together narrative threads and direct the production, ensuring a compelling exploration of Baker’s life through the synergy of words and music.

The evening will commence with the Agorà aperitif and an exclusive performance by an artist from the Approdi Art Call, setting the stage for an immersive cultural experience.
