June marks the season of graduations at the International School of Trieste, where ceremonies have recently been held to honor students completing their educational journeys across various school levels. The events took place at the school’s Opicina campus, celebrating the achievements of students in Kindergarten, Elementary, Middle, and High School.
The graduation ceremonies recognized the milestones of 26 children from the Kindergarten section, 26 students from the Elementary section, 23 from Middle School, and 18 students from the High School section. The events not only marked the end of these educational stages but also highlighted the academic and personal growth of each student.
In addition to the traditional awarding of diplomas, this year’s ceremonies included special recognitions for outstanding students. A notable highlight was the introduction of the “Maurizio Fermeglia Memorial Award,” dedicated to the memory of the former rector of the University of Trieste and vice president of IST, who passed away last February. This award honors a student demonstrating exceptional interest and aptitude in the scientific field. The inaugural recipient was Gioia Ansoldi.
The graduation ceremony for Grade 13 was graced by the presence of IST President Alberto Fonzar and School Director Carrie Pierson, who both addressed the graduates and their families.
This year’s graduates have secured acceptance into prestigious institutions worldwide, reflecting the school’s commitment to academic excellence. Among the universities welcoming IST students are the University of Groningen, Hotel School The Hague, and the University of Amsterdam in the Netherlands; SOAS University of London, the University of Sussex, and King’s College London in the United Kingdom; Tufts University in the United States; and Bocconi University in Italy.
The ceremonies at the International School of Trieste serve as a testament to the hard work and dedication of the students and staff, marking the beginning of a new chapter in the lives of these young scholars.
