In the picturesque region of Friuli Venezia Giulia, the latest Excelsior Bulletin offers a detailed snapshot of the labor market. Conducted by the Study Center of the Chamber of Commerce of Pordenone-Udine, the bulletin reveals a complex economic scenario marked by both optimism and challenges.
According to the report, over ten thousand hires are anticipated in June, with the number projected to rise to 28,000 for the entire June-August quarter. These figures, while impressive, represent a slight decline from the same periods in 2023.
Tourism continues to be the primary engine driving new job contracts. The sector plans to offer 7,580 contracts in June alone, nearly reaching 20,000 for the quarter. Meanwhile, the manufacturing sector seeks 2,370 workers in June, totaling 5,880 for the quarter.
The construction and commerce sectors are showing promising growth, with increases of 17.8% and 16.9%, respectively. However, the industrial sector is experiencing a downturn, reflecting broader economic uncertainties.
A notable aspect of the report is the difficulty businesses face in finding suitable candidates. Approximately 5,700 hires are proving challenging to fill, marking a 1.2% increase in recruitment difficulties compared to 2023, and a significant 19.4% increase since 2019.
Moreover, the labor market’s demographic shifts are apparent. About 21% of businesses plan to hire immigrant workers, while 35.1% of June’s hires will involve young people under the age of 30. This emphasis on younger workers suggests a strategic move to infuse fresh energy and perspectives into the workforce.
As Friuli Venezia Giulia navigates these dynamic times, the interplay of sectoral growth, demographic trends, and recruitment challenges paints a multifaceted picture of the region’s economic health.
