In a significant cultural and philanthropic endeavor, the “Donna Libera” project, aimed at supporting the Goap Anti-Violence Center of Trieste, was unveiled today during a press conference held in the city’s historic Council Chamber.

The event saw the participation of notable figures including Giorgio Rossi, the city’s Councillor for Culture and Tourism Policies, alongside artist Arturo D’Ascanio, who spearheaded the initiative. Also in attendance were art critic Franco Rosso, model Laura Settanni, event moderator Cecilia La Paglia, poet Marianna Pavanello, actress Elisabetta Cancelli, and representatives from the Goap Anti-Violence Center.

“Donna Libera,” an initiative by D’Ascanio, involved the creation, exhibition, and charitable auction of a piece of art. The distinctive auction took place within the esteemed Florit store and was enlivened by contributions from various artists. During the event, a private citizen named Mr. Vincenzo acquired the artwork for a sum exceeding 800 euros, which was then donated to the Goap Anti-Violence Center.

Councillor Rossi, speaking on behalf of the municipality, emphasized the importance of community-driven initiatives. “The Municipality supports positive initiatives that arise from the community. The ‘Donna Libera’ project centers on the crucial issue of violence against women. Women have historically been and continue to be a cornerstone of society, yet they often face negative treatment from men,” Rossi remarked. “Despite the civil rights achieved through historical sacrifices, episodes of femicide remind us that much progress remains to be made. This project is a positive step in that direction.”

He added, “The artwork at the heart of this project symbolizes a young woman looking toward the future with a sense of freedom and protection. On behalf of the Municipal Administration, I extend gratitude to the artist and everyone who made this project possible, as well as the dedicated staff of Goap for their unwavering work.”

The “Donna Libera” initiative stands as a testament to the power of art and community engagement in addressing and combating the pervasive issue of violence against women, underscoring a collective commitment to fostering a safer and more equitable society.
