On Monday, July 1, at 8:30 PM, the MIB of Trieste will echo with the powerful strains of “Nessun Dorma,” a charity concert aimed at supporting the Burlo Garofolo Foundation ETS. This event is part of a broader initiative to raise funds for the purchase of prosthetics for children from Gaza, who are being treated at the renowned IRCCS Burlo Garofolo.
The concert will feature acclaimed tenor Fabio Andreotti and mezzo-soprano Sarvenaz Forghani, accompanied by pianist Andrea Furlan. As they perform some of the most celebrated arias by Rossini, Verdi, Puccini, and Tosti, the evening will resonate with a cause much greater than music alone.
“The beauty and vitality of children can be seen in their eyes,” remarked Gabriele Cont, president of the Burlo Garofolo Foundation ETS. “However, children from war zones, poverty, hunger, malnutrition, or those devastated by climatic events lose that light. As a pediatrician, I have seen those lifeless eyes and believe that as a community, we have the obligation to nourish that light because children are the future.”
The initiative, Cont explained, has three interconnected goals: to raise awareness about the IRCCS’s crucial work, to gather funds for not only the prosthetics but also the comprehensive support activities that follow—such as adapting the prosthetics as the children grow, regular check-ups, continuous psychological support for both children and their families, and, importantly, restoring the beauty of life. “Giving these children the chance to play sports and feel welcomed and integrated means returning to them the joy and beauty of life,” he said.
“We are proud to host this important charity event,” said Prof. Vladimir Nanut, founder and CEO of MIB Trieste. “The ‘Nessun Dorma’ concert represents an extraordinary opportunity to join forces and make a difference in the lives of these children. This initiative not only allows us to raise essential funds for the purchase of prosthetics but also emphasizes the importance of social responsibility in the business and education sectors. We warmly invite everyone to participate and contribute to this noble cause, demonstrating that together we can have a positive and lasting impact on the lives of those in greatest need.”
Stefano Dorbolò, General Director of IRCCS Burlo Garofolo, echoed these sentiments. “We are a hospital that has among its founding values the promotion of a culture of hospitality and the overcoming of barriers to accessing care,” he said. “I express my deepest gratitude to those who made this complex operation possible. I thank Barbara Fari, the Foundation, and the MIB for organizing this solidarity event and all the people who will join, united by a common spirit of humanity. War is the failure of life: as a hospital, we bring to this initiative the image of children being born and healed and mothers rejoicing, and our appeal to stop the tears of mothers weeping over children who die.”
The event will also feature Giuseppe Battiston, along with video messages from Alessio Boni and Lino Guanciale, and will be graced by the presence of Sally Backer, founder of “Save a Child,” the organization that facilitated the arrival of the children in Trieste.
Participation in the event is by donation invitation, and seats must be reserved by contacting Dr. Barbara Fari at barbarafari67@gmail.com.
