Under the twilight sky, the resonant notes of Gaetano Pugnani’s “Werther” will grace the air, performed by the Orchestra of the Fondazione Teatro Lirico Giuseppe Verdi of Trieste. Maestro Alvise Casellati, renowned for his engagements at Venice’s La Fenice and the Arena di Verona, will conduct this evocative piece, offering a prelude to an evening steeped in love and melancholy.
On June 29, at 9:30 PM, “Il Rossetti a Miramare” inaugurates its summer series with this unique sunset concert, a collaboration between the Historical Museum and the Park of Miramare Castle and the Teatro Stabile del Friuli Venezia Giulia, enriched by the participation of Teatro Lirico Giuseppe Verdi. This year’s opening melds music and prose, with the distinguished actor, screenwriter, and director Sergio Rubini delivering the heartrending words of Werther, the archetypal Romantic hero.
Pugnani’s 18th-century melodrama, a reimagining of Goethe’s “Werther,” captures the essence of a timeless and universal love. Despite its relative obscurity in contemporary repertoires, the work’s classical foundations bridge Italian traditions with the Viennese and German schools, presenting a rare auditory treasure. Set against the enchanting backdrop of Miramare Park, this performance promises an immersive experience, inviting the audience to embrace an evening of profound beauty.
As night gives way to dawn, Mozart’s compositions will usher in the new day with a “Dawn Concert” on June 30 at 5:19 AM in the Piazzale del Castello di Miramare. This serene morning gathering will feature two of Mozart’s celebrated quintets, performed by an ensemble drawn from the Orchestra of the Teatro Verdi of Trieste.
The program includes the Quintet in E-flat major, K. 407, written in 1782 for Ignatz Leitgeb, a Salzburg horn player and frequent subject of Mozart’s playful humor. The second, the Quintet in A major, K. 581, composed in 1789 for the virtuoso clarinetist Antonio Stadler, reflects a period of personal turmoil for Mozart, yet conveys an unexpected tranquility and charm.
Performers include Stefano Furini and Valentino Dentesani on violins, David Briatore and Elisabetta Chiappo on violas, Simona Slokar on cello, Chiara Bosco on horn, and Marco Masini on clarinet. Together, they will guide listeners through a musical journey of both depth and lightness, leading seamlessly into the rosy glow of the morning.
