The seventh day of the ShorTS International Film Festival is set to begin with a delightful showcase for young audiences at the Kinemax theater on Thursday morning. In collaboration with the prestigious Sergio Amidei Award, the festival will present a curated selection of short films for children and teenagers, setting a vibrant tone for the day’s events.
Later in the day, the festival’s attention will shift to Trieste, where the Sala Xenia will become the hub for cutting-edge immersive cinema. At 6 p.m., the ShorTS Immersive competition section will captivate attendees with seven innovative works, including three pieces in 6DoF (six degrees of freedom) and four in Cinematic VR. These films, viewable through specialized headsets, will offer a novel experience, challenging traditional storytelling by immersing viewers in multidimensional narrative spaces. Reservations for these sought-after screenings are available through maremetraggio.com.
The evening will continue at the Teatro Miela with the Share The Future contest award ceremony, hosted in collaboration with EstEnergy – Gruppo Hera. At 6:30 p.m., the ceremony will honor the most compelling image representing environmental sustainability, awarding the winner a state-of-the-art iPad. Additionally, the top five entries, as determined by public votes, will be invited to participate in an exclusive workshop focused on comic art.
The Eco-ShorTS competition section, a highlight of the festival, will feature screenings that commence immediately after the award ceremony. This section will showcase 11 thought-provoking short films from ten countries, both within and beyond Europe. The curated selection aims to inspire reflection on the critical role of Nature in human life. Among the notable entries is “Orchard” by Federico Barni, an Italian director based in London. Barni’s film, rich with tension and suspense, delves into the story of two mining surveyors exploring the depths of a sentient ecosystem in a Welsh forest, in search of an abandoned gold mine. Another standout is “Blow!” by Neus Ballús, a celebrated Catalan director known for her award-winning feature documentaries. Ballús’ film invites viewers to explore the mysterious world of whales that grace the Catalan coast for a few weeks each year.
The day will conclude with a 9:15 p.m. screening at the Giardino Pubblico, featuring the final block of short films from the Maremetraggio section. This open-air event will provide a fitting end to a day dedicated to celebrating diverse and innovative cinematic expressions, reinforcing the festival’s commitment to environmental themes and immersive storytelling.
