Trieste Celebrates Director Laura Samani’s Cinematic Journey

At precisely 5 PM yesterday, the ShorTS Film Festival turned its spotlight on a distinguished figure from Trieste’s cinematic landscape: Laura Samani. The Campolungo section of the festival was dedicated to showcasing the work of the acclaimed director, whose innovative approach to storytelling has garnered international acclaim.

Samani, known for her evocative and thought-provoking films, enchanted the festival audience with a masterclass that offered an intimate look into the creative process behind her acclaimed short films, “The Sleeping Saint” and “The Summer is Over – Notes on Furio.” Her discussion illuminated the intricate layers and themes woven into her narratives, drawing attendees into her world of cinematic artistry.

In addition to her short films, Samani reflected on the triumphs of her debut feature, “Small Body.” The film, which premiered at the 2022 Cannes Critics’ Week, was met with widespread critical praise. Its success continued to build as it won the David di Donatello for Best Directorial Debut and received a nomination for the Silver Ribbons, further cementing Samani’s reputation as a formidable talent in contemporary cinema.

The evening’s festivities culminated with a screening of “Small Body,” providing the audience with the opportunity to experience the film that has become a cornerstone of Samani’s emerging career. The screening was a testament to her evolving prowess as a filmmaker and a highlight of the festival’s ongoing celebration of global cinematic excellence.
