A scorching heat wave has placed much of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, particularly its plains and coastal areas, under a red alert. The Ministry of Health’s heatwave bulletin has identified Trieste as one of the cities experiencing the highest level of heat risk today and tomorrow, signaling potential health threats not only to at-risk groups but also to healthy and active individuals.
On July 10th, temperatures soared, recording between 33 and 34 degrees Celsius along the coast, slightly higher in the lowlands at up to 36 degrees, and hitting 30 degrees even in the valleys of Carnia.
This intense heat wave is expected to persist until Saturday, with some relief anticipated from brief thunderstorms starting Friday. However, meteorologists warn that the following week will likely see the return of severe heat.
Health officials recommend several precautions: avoid direct sun exposure and venture outside only during cooler hours, stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water while avoiding alcohol, and consume meals rich in water, vitamins, and minerals, such as fruits and vegetables. Additionally, residents are advised to wear breathable clothing, keep windows and shutters closed during the day, and open them at night to cool down their homes.
As Trieste and its surrounding areas endure these extreme temperatures, the public is urged to remain vigilant and take necessary steps to protect their health.
