Wizz Air has announced the sale of tickets for its new route connecting Trieste and Bucharest. The low-cost carrier’s latest offering is set to commence on October 29, 2024, coinciding with the onset of the IATA winter season. Flights will operate on Tuesdays and Saturdays, with arrivals from Bucharest scheduled for 2:55 PM and departures from Trieste at 3:30 PM, utilizing Airbus A321 aircraft equipped with 230 seats.
Tickets for the Trieste-Bucharest route are available for purchase on the airline’s website, wizzair.com, and its mobile application, “WIZZ,” with prices starting at €39.99 for a one-way trip under the Regular fare category.
This new route holds significant promise for the Friuli Venezia Giulia region and its principal airport. Primarily, it caters to the region’s substantial Romanian community, which numbers nearly twenty-six thousand residents, the largest foreign community in Friuli Venezia Giulia. Additionally, the direct flight is poised to bolster tourism, enhancing both inbound and outbound travel, with expectations of growth driven by the increased accessibility.
Economically, the connection underscores Romania’s role as a vital trading partner. In 2023, Romania ranked as the fifth-largest European trading partner for Friuli Venezia Giulia, following Germany, France, Austria, and Slovenia.
Wizz Air, the third-largest low-cost airline in Europe by traffic volume, has established itself as a prominent player in Eastern European aviation. The airline has been servicing Trieste Airport with twice-weekly flights to Tirana since July 2023, further cementing its footprint in the region.
