Discover Opicina: A Summer Evening of Festivities and Culture

The historic streets of Opicina will transform into a bustling, pedestrian-friendly zone this Friday evening, July 12, as part of the vibrant event “Discover Opicina… a Summer Evening.”

The heart of Opicina will be closed to traffic, allowing visitors to wander freely through the charming center. Shops will extend their hours until 11:00 PM, offering discounted items and free balloons for children in participating stores.

The festivities begin early with an exhibition of the historic Tram car at the Opicina Tram Station from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, courtesy of Trieste Trasporti. At 5:00 PM, the local parish priest, Franc Pohajač, will lead a Holy Mass at the Antonella Retirement Home Residence on Via di Prosecco, 9, followed by entertainment and refreshments.

For history enthusiasts, a guided tour of the Kleine Berlin will be offered by the Triestino Alpine Club at 6:00 PM. Reservations are required and can be made via email.

At 7:00 PM, the Berimbau Band will inaugurate the evening with a one-hour roaming performance, starting from Piazzale Monte Re and concluding at the intersection towards Basovizza, then along Via di Prosecco to the church. Following their performance, the band will be hosted at Buffet Pizzeria Rino on Strada per Vienna, 11/A.

Children’s activities will be plentiful, with free entertainment from 7:00 PM to 11:00 PM, including inflatables managed by Luana Borghese, face painting, and animated activities by Ernesto Animazione on Via Nazionale, Strada per Vienna, and Via di Prosecco.

Musical entertainment will abound throughout the evening:

  • At 7:30 PM, Tumbling Dice will perform at the Wine Bar Piccolo, in collaboration with Trattoria Pizzeria Veto on Via di Prosecco 15 and 35.
  • Bar Alla Tramvia on Via Nazionale, 26 will host live music.
  • Caffè Vatta on Via Nazionale, 35 will offer musical entertainment and a variety of aperitifs.
  • Bar Tabor on Via Nazionale, 51 will present a “Mojito Night” with music.
  • At 8:00 PM, The Selfies will perform at Gelateria Arnoldo on Strada per Vienna, 14, where a special ice cream flavor will be introduced for the occasion.

At 9:00 PM, the AŠD Cheerdance Millenium will perform near the roundabout in front of the Zinzendorf Stele. Concurrently, from 9:00 PM to 10:00 PM, there will be a guided tour of the “Sharp Art” exhibition, available by reservation.

The evening will also feature a self-defense demonstration at 10:00 PM by Asd Progetto Autodifesa, including an exhibition by Slovenian national champion Thomas Gerzeli, at the Bizjak Driving School on Via Nazionale 36/1.

Throughout the event, visitors can enjoy an exhibition of historic cars by the Club dei Venti all’Ora, a chess tournament with a giant chessboard organized by the Trieste Chess Academy between Via di Basovizza and Strada per Vienna, and a special opening of artist Fulvio Cazzador’s atelier on Via Nazionale, 32.
