An exhibition by Diego Salvador, titled “Images and Pixels,” is scheduled to open at the Municipal Art Hall in Piazza Unità from July 15 to August 5. This show presents a journey from the era of Polaroids to contemporary digital photography.

The exhibition includes a series of snapshots taken from a single vantage point, documenting the passage of time and the changing attitudes of visitors. These visitors, unaware of being photographed, are seen interacting with two abstract artworks displayed at the Venice International Art Biennale.

Salvador’s approach involves transforming these analog shots into digital images, a process that removes details and depth of field, resulting in flattened visual spaces without curves, shadows, or chiaroscuro. The images are reduced to pixels, each a small square of color representing a simplified space.

This exhibition challenges traditional photography norms through digital experiments that diverge from established rules and conventions, encouraging reflections and discussions about the nature of photography. Salvador’s work uses the camera and technology as tools for artistic expression rather than merely capturing reality.

“Images and Pixels” will be open to the public daily from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 1 p.m. to 5:20 p.m., from July 15 to August 5, 2024. A presentation of the exhibition is scheduled for July 19 at 6:30 p.m., featuring a critical commentary by Monica Mazzolini.
