Barcolana, the esteemed regatta celebrated for gathering the world’s most passionate sailors, is set to surprise its audience with a groundbreaking initiative. The program, aptly named Ticket To Race, invites sailing enthusiasts from all walks of life to participate in the world’s largest regatta, regardless of their experience level or boat ownership status.

In an effort to democratize the sport and broaden participation, Dean Bassi, the sports director of the Società Velica di Barcola e Grignano (SVBG), revealed, “We decided to bring the Ticket To Race project to life. This initiative allows anyone without a boat to partake in the Autumn Cup. Our aim is to make participation as seamless as possible. The core of our event is the people, and through this project, even sailors without boats will take center stage. We will form crews of individuals who do not know each other but share a mutual passion for sailing and a desire to compete in the regatta.”

The logistics for participating in Barcolana56, presented by Generali, have been meticulously planned to ensure ease and accessibility. The organizing committee will provide all essential equipment: a boat, a skipper, and a prime mooring spot in front of Piazza Unità, the largest sea-facing square in Europe. Participants need only to bring their own rain gear and enthusiasm for sailing. The registration fee includes a training session on Saturday afternoon, designed to immerse sailors in the regatta’s spirit. Additionally, those seeking an authentic maritime experience can opt to sleep onboard the boat they will race on Sunday, at no extra cost.

Registration is straightforward. Prospective participants can visit the official website, barcolana.it, and sign up on the “Ticket to Race” page. Upon completing the registration, SVBG staff will manage all further arrangements, from crew formation to participation logistics, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable experience for all involved.
