On Wednesday, July 24, at 9 p.m., the serene garden of the Sartorio Museum will transform into a stage for a heartfelt homage to one of opera’s greatest composers, Giacomo Puccini. As part of Trieste Estate 2024, this special event titled “Vissi d’arte, vissi d’amore” will celebrate the centenary of Puccini’s death.
The evening promises to be a sublime journey through the maestro’s legacy, featuring narration by Massimiliano Finazzer Flory. Drawing from Puccini’s personal letters and librettos, sourced from the Ricordi Archive, Finazzer Flory will provide a glimpse into the mind of the composer whose works have left an indelible mark on the world of opera.
Accompanying the narration, pianist Massimo Morelli will perform selections from Puccini’s renowned operas, including Le Villi, Edgar, Tosca, La Bohème, Madama Butterfly, and Turandot. Soprano Ilaria Alida Quilico will lend her voice to the evening, interpreting some of Puccini’s most beloved arias.
In the event of inclement weather, the performance will move indoors to the Luttazzi Hall of Magazzino 26 at Porto Vecchio-Porto Vivo. This contingency ensures that the homage to Puccini will proceed uninterrupted, providing audiences with an evening of culture and reflection.
“Vissi d’arte, vissi d’amore” is not merely a concert but a commemorative experience, merging the spoken word with musical artistry to honor a century of Puccini’s enduring influence.
