The University of Trieste is preparing to host the second round of Italy’s national medical and dental admission tests on Tuesday, July 30. This session, conducted simultaneously across the country, will see about 70,000 aspiring students vying for a spot in prestigious programs.

The national quota for available spots, as set by the Ministry of University and Research, has been increased this year. There are 20,867 places for Medicine and Surgery—up from 18,331 last year—and 1,535 for Dentistry and Dental Prosthetics, an increase from 1,276.

At the University of Trieste, the test will be administered to 433 candidates. Of these, 426 are residents of the region, specifically the provinces of Trieste (144), Gorizia (70), and Pordenone (186). Additionally, 7 European Union citizens residing abroad will also take the test. Notably, women make up 72% of the candidates, with 311 females and 122 males registered.

The test will be conducted in Building H3 of the Piazzale Europa Campus. Identification procedures are scheduled from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM, followed by the exam from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Candidates will face a rigorous 100-minute exam featuring 60 questions across various subjects: 23 on biology, 15 on chemistry, 13 on physics and mathematics, 5 on logical reasoning and problem-solving, and 4 on reading comprehension and acquired knowledge. Questions are drawn from a pool of 3,500 in the Ministry’s database.

Scoring for the test is set up to encourage precision: each correct answer earns 1.5 points, while unanswered questions receive no points and incorrect answers incur a 0.4-point penalty. Candidates must score at least 20 points to be considered for the ranking. Results will be posted on the Universitaly portal on August 8, with the national ranking released on September 10, 2024.

In preparation for the exam, the University of Trieste has offered two free preparatory sessions in May and July. These sessions attracted over 500 participants from the provinces of Trieste and Gorizia, reflecting the university’s commitment to supporting its students through the competitive admissions process.
