From July 29 to August 4, the charming city of Trieste will transform into a cultural hotspot with its annual Trieste Estate festival, offering a week-long celebration of music and theater against the backdrop of its historic venues. This year’s lineup promises an eclectic mix of performances, including tributes to iconic bands, innovative musical acts, and a rich array of theatrical productions.

A Tribute to Queen and More

The festival kicks off at the majestic San Giusto Castle with a tribute to the legendary rock band Queen. “6 Pence – The Queen Experience” will deliver a nostalgic homage to the band’s greatest hits. Music lovers will also enjoy performances by Italian indie star Vasco Brondi, known for his genre-defying artistry that blends literary narrative with sonic experimentation. The castle’s festivities continue with “Broccoletti Pop,” a DJ set showcasing Italy’s freshest musical talents, including Rkomi, Guè, Bnkr44, Cosmo, Calcutta, and Gazzelle.

A Musical Feast Across Venues

In Piazza Verdi, attendees can expect a diverse range of musical genres. The Transónica Tango Orchestra will present a fusion of traditional Argentine tango with contemporary sounds, while “Turn On Irish” offers a vibrant display of Irish music and dance. The evening will culminate in a performance by Eddie Cat, an Italian-English artist who will introduce his new album, “Accidentally on Purpose.”

The Verdi Theater will host the acclaimed musical “Mimma,” a poignant tale set during World War II that explores the experiences of Italians in England. Meanwhile, the Sartorio Museum Garden will feature a candlelight concert of film and musical scores, and an evening dedicated to the works of Donizetti and Puccini.

Theatrical Highlights

Trieste Estate’s theatrical offerings include the “Ave Ninchi” dialect theater festival, presented by L’Armonia Aps. The festival opens on August 1 with “El destin xe ne la man…!”, a tale of redemption and transformation. The following days will bring comedies and dramas that explore a range of human experiences, from the comedic struggles of a single mother in “Che scandalo!” to a tragicomic portrayal of rural life in “Quel piccolo campo.”

Fuoricentro Brings Culture to the Neighborhoods

The “Trieste Estate Fuoricentro” series extends the festival’s reach to various city districts. On August 2, the Roiano and Gretta areas will host a performance by the Arcobaleno Wind Orchestra and a theatrical adaptation of the Odyssey titled “Il ritorno di Ulisse in patria.” On August 3, the Barcola fountain will be the site of “Ritual de fuego,” a dramatic fire show. The week wraps up on August 4 in the Melara Quadrilateral with art workshops and a concert by Fratelli Lambretta Ska Jazz.

A Celebration of Culture

Trieste Estate, organized by the Municipality of Trieste’s Department of Culture and Tourism, is a testament to the city’s vibrant cultural scene. With support from PromoTurismoFVG and collaboration from the Trieste Convention & Visitors Bureau, the festival promises an unforgettable week of artistic celebration.
