An electrifying week of musical theater training is set to come to a crescendo on Saturday night, August 3, as “The Academy,” an intensive course founded by renowned West End stars Ramin Karimloo and Earl Carpenter, concludes with a memorable concert at Piazza Verdi. The event is part of the city’s Trieste Estate festival, hosted by the Municipality of Trieste.

The program, which began on July 29 at the historic Politeama Rossetti, has transformed the venue into a vibrant hub of creativity, bringing together aspiring performers from across Italy, Greece, and Croatia. The course, designed for musical theater enthusiasts, has provided a week of rigorous training in dance, singing, and acting, guided by some of the most respected names in the industry.

“This is an incredible opportunity for these talented individuals to immerse themselves in the world of musical theater,” said Karimloo, who is participating remotely due to his current Broadway commitments. “Our goal is to provide them with not just skills, but a deep, enduring inspiration that will help shape their careers.”

In addition to Karimloo, the course features a distinguished lineup of instructors, including Earl Carpenter, known for his acclaimed roles on both the West End and Broadway, and other notable artists such as Rohan Tickell, Annette McLaughlin, Christopher Guard, Jaye Elster, Olivia Brereton, Giorgia Romero, Michela Agius, and Jo Michaels Barrington. These instructors bring their extensive experience from prestigious UK training institutions like ArtsEd, LAMDA, GSA, and Mountview.

The culmination of the course will be a free public concert held in Piazza Verdi, offering both participants and locals a showcase of the week’s work. The performance will feature a repertoire from beloved musicals including “The Secret Garden,” “Sweeney Todd,” “Wicked,” “The Greatest Showman,” “Frozen,” and memorable pieces from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Love Never Dies” and “The Phantom of the Opera.”

Audience members will be treated to an exceptional display of talent, as students perform alongside their teachers and a special guest star, Earl Carpenter. Known for his commanding stage presence and powerful performances, Carpenter’s participation is expected to add an extra layer of excitement to the evening.

“This concert is not just a performance but a celebration of the hard work and dedication these young performers have shown,” said Carpenter. “It’s been a pleasure to witness their growth and to be part of their journey.”

For the participants, the concert will provide a valuable opportunity to perform in front of an audience, showcasing the skills and confidence they have developed over the course. The experience is particularly meaningful for those coming from other cities and countries, who have traveled to Trieste specifically for this opportunity.

As the final notes of the concert echo through Piazza Verdi, it is anticipated that “The Academy” will not only enrich the participants’ artistic abilities but also leave a lasting impression on the local community. The event underscores Trieste’s growing reputation as a cultural hub and reaffirms the power of musical theater to inspire and connect people across borders.
