A powerful storm struck downtown Trieste unexpectedly on Thursday night, causing significant disruption to the city’s evening activities. The tempest, which hit around 9 p.m., led to the abrupt suspension of a highly anticipated concert in Piazza Verdi, leaving attendees scrambling for cover.
The storm’s ferocity also resulted in considerable damage to the area’s outdoor dining establishments, with numerous tables and chairs shattered by the forceful winds and torrential rain. The swift and violent weather phenomenon, while forecasted, arrived with a severity that caught many off guard.
The Civil Protection Agency of the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia had earlier issued a weather advisory, predicting the potential for thunderstorms from the afternoon of Thursday, August 1, through Friday, August 2. Despite these warnings, the intensity of the storm exceeded expectations, underscoring the unpredictable nature of such weather events.
