The city of Trieste has embarked on an ambitious project to restore and renovate its historic municipal pharmacy, known as “Al Cedro,” located in the heart of Piazza Oberdan. On Thursday, August 1, city officials unveiled details of the renovation during a press conference, highlighting the project’s significance for the community and its expected impact on local services.

The renovation project, with a budget of 500,000 euros, aims to significantly upgrade the pharmacy’s facilities. The work will include comprehensive upgrades to the building’s foundations, modernizing systems, reorganizing laboratory spaces, and restoring the exterior fixtures. According to Lodi, the construction is already underway, and barring any unforeseen delays, it is slated for completion by the end of January 2025.
The renovation will expand the pharmacy’s sales area and optimize operational spaces such as storage, changing rooms, and offices. The total cost of the project stands at 500,000 euros, with about 410,000 euros allocated for the construction work, not including VAT. The renovation also involves preserving the building’s historical features and ensuring compliance with regulations set by the Friuli Venezia Giulia Superintendence for Archaeology, Fine Arts, and Landscape.
In addition to expanding the sales space and improving environmental quality, the renovation will include the creation of a new galenic laboratory, updated changing rooms, and improved accessibility features such as a disabled WC on the ground floor.
The project has already passed through various stages of approval and planning, with the final executive design approved in February of this year. The contract was awarded to the construction firm Costruzioni Boz s.a.s. of Meduno in May, and work officially commenced on July 3. The city expects the renovation to be completed by January 28, 2025.
