The town of Muggia is embarking on a significant renovation project to transform a former library storage space into a dedicated youth center. This new facility aims to provide a focal point for activities and support services for the town’s younger residents.

Gianna Birnberg, Muggia’s city councilor responsible for Youth and Educational Social Policies and Equal Opportunities, announced the initiative on Monday. According to Birnberg, the renovation of the E.Guglia library’s old storage area is part of a broader strategy to create a central hub for youth engagement. The adjacent restrooms, which have been out of service for years, will also be renovated to meet current standards.

“We are currently evaluating the costs and timeline for the renovation,” Birnberg said. “Our goal is to create a space that is central and accessible to young people, close to existing popular areas like the basketball court and the library. We aim to establish a center where students can find support, participate in organized activities, and engage in constructive free time pursuits.”

Birnberg highlighted that the new center will particularly benefit secondary school students. Meanwhile, primary school students currently have access to the Sis (Post-Reception Service) program in the afternoons, and secondary students can participate in a youth project hosted at the library.

Despite recent concerns over public order issues involving local teenagers, Birnberg assured that the administration remains committed to addressing the needs of young people. “Our focus on youth has been unwavering,” she stated. “We are taking this next step to further support and involve them. The new center will feature professional educators, and we plan to work in concert with existing programs, including street education initiatives, to create a comprehensive network of support.”

Birnberg emphasized that the goal is to foster a supportive environment where young people can be heard and guided through their development, offering them opportunities to engage in meaningful and positive activities.
