From August 12 to 18, the historic city of Trieste will transform into a vibrant hub of music, theater, and cinema, offering a week-long celebration of revival and tribute performances. This year’s Trieste Estate festival promises an eclectic array of events, from tribute bands and cinematic showcases to theatrical performances and outdoor concerts.

The festival opens with a nod to Italian pop history. On August 12, Piazza Verdi will host “Stai con me,” a tribute concert by I Soliti Pooh, which will revisit the beloved hits of the legendary Italian band Pooh. Concurrently, the Museum Sartorio’s garden will present “Happy Birthday Sir Tim Rice,” a musical homage featuring Stefania Seculin, celebrating the renowned lyricist’s contributions to the worlds of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Disney.

Music enthusiasts can look forward to a revival of the swinging ’60s and ’70s on August 14 with “The Roaring ’60s in Concert,” set to energize Piazza Verdi while supporting the Hospice Association of Aurisina. The following day, the square will host a “Rock Night” featuring Big Band Theory, a 25-member ensemble from Trieste.

On August 16, the festival will embrace Latin rhythms at the Sartorio with the “Trieste Brazil Festival,” featuring the Helô Lourenço Quartet. This Brazilian music performance will showcase traditional and contemporary styles with piano, bass, and drums.

The “Trieste Brazil Festival” will continue on August 17, this time in Piazza Verdi, marking 25 years of the Banda Berimbau. The evening will celebrate Brazilian percussion music, featuring renowned artists such as Fabio Allman, Leonardo Zannier, and Heloisa Lourenço. Simultaneously, the Nuova Orchestra Ferruccio Busoni, joined by accordionist Gianni Fassetta, will present “Film Music” at Sartorio, delivering a selection of iconic soundtracks by composers including Piazzolla, Morricone, and Mancini.

The festival’s musical offerings will culminate on August 18 with a performance by “Moonchild,” a tribute band dedicated to Iron Maiden. Known for their faithful renditions of the metal legends’ hits, Moonchild will bring their powerful show to Piazza Verdi. Meanwhile, Sartorio’s garden will host “Marco Polo 1324-1674-2024: Baroque Inspirations and Music,” commemorating the famed merchant 700 years after his death.

In addition to its musical lineup, Trieste Estate offers a diverse cinematic program. The outdoor film series “Il Giardino del Cinema,” held at the Public Gardens de Tommasini, will feature screenings of critically acclaimed films, including Justine Triet’s “Anatomy of a Fall,” Richard Linklater’s “Hit Man – Killer by Chance,” and Wim Wenders’ “Perfect Days.”

The Winckelmann Museum will also be a focal point of the festival, presenting “Evening Archaeology” on August 13. This event will explore the cultural impact of Egyptomania in Trieste and the museum’s Egyptian collection.

The theatrical component of Trieste Estate includes “Women… What Women!” on August 14, performed in Sartorio’s garden. The show, organized by the International Operetta Association of FVG, will delve into the history of female emancipation in Trieste, from the early 20th century to the present.

Trieste Estate is organized by the Municipality of Trieste’s Department of Culture and Tourism, in collaboration with the Departments of Education and Family and Territorial Policies. The festival benefits from support by PromoTurismoFVG and cooperation with the Trieste Convention & Visitors Bureau. The artistic direction is managed by Gabriele Centis for music and Lino Marrazzo for theater, working in partnership with Teatro degli Sterpi, Hangar Teatri, Vigna PR, and Good Vibrations.
