In a bid to enhance tourism and offer travelers a unique experience, Italy has launched a new express rail service connecting Milan to Tuscany’s renowned Versilia coastline. The Espresso Versilia, part of the FS Treni Turistici Italiani initiative, will operate on select dates this summer, running until September 26, 2024.
This new rail service offers passengers a direct connection from Milan to Livorno on Tuesdays and Thursdays, departing from Milan’s central station at 10:35 AM and arriving in Livorno at 3:42 PM. Along the way, the train makes stops at several of Versilia’s most popular beach destinations, including Pietrasanta, Camaiore, Viareggio, and Torre del Lago, offering travelers easy access to some of Tuscany’s most picturesque locations.
FS Treni Turistici Italiani has described the Espresso Versilia as its first daytime service “to the blue sea of Versilia, passing through the Cinque Terre, surrounded by the history of some of Tuscany’s most enchanting art cities.” The return journey from Livorno departs at 4:50 PM, with the train arriving back in Milan at 11:05 PM, making it a convenient option for a day trip or an extended stay along the coast.
In addition to its scenic route, the train provides dining facilities on board, allowing passengers to enjoy meals during their journey. It also accommodates pets and sporting equipment, making it a versatile option for travelers with diverse needs.
The Espresso Versilia is the latest addition to Italy’s growing roster of tourist trains introduced this summer. Other notable routes include a connection from Rome to Puglia and a service from Milan to the French Riviera, each offering unique opportunities to explore Italy and its neighboring regions by rail.
