On Monday, September 16, the long-awaited road resurfacing project will commence in Pisciolon, a small but significant neighborhood in Muggia. The road, which has been in disrepair for years and features particularly steep sections, will finally receive much-needed improvements. The project, expected to bring some disruption to the area, is backed by a €150,000 investment from the Municipality of Muggia.

“This is an important project,” said Mayor Paolo Polidori, who has emphasized the urgency of the work. “The road has been in poor condition for far too long, and this is critical maintenance.”

The road, which is split between cement and porphyry sections, is a vital thoroughfare for local residents. The repairs will also include the restoration of a long-damaged guardrail, a hazard that has worried residents for years.

Addressing a Long-Standing Issue

The area of Pisciolon is known for its sharp inclines, making this work especially complex. For years, residents have called for improvements to the infrastructure, concerned both about safety and accessibility. The current road conditions, particularly in wet or icy weather, have posed challenges for drivers and pedestrians alike.

“We understand that there will be some inconvenience, but these repairs are necessary,” said Polidori. “The steep incline of the road presents unique challenges, and our goal is to improve safety for everyone.”

The municipality has taken steps to minimize the disruption to residents. During a community meeting held last week at Millo Hall, town officials, including Mayor Polidori, Councillor for Territorial Maintenance Giorgio De Sanctis, and municipal engineers, outlined the project’s scope and timeline to those affected.

Community Engagement and Transparency

In an effort to maintain transparency, local authorities invited residents of Pisciolon to participate in a discussion about the project. During the meeting, town officials provided detailed information about the work, which is expected to cause temporary traffic diversions and parking restrictions.

The traffic in the area will be redirected through Pianezzi, another part of Muggia where roadworks were recently completed, ensuring that local mobility is preserved as much as possible. Additionally, parking restrictions will be enforced along the road, with vehicle removal mandated in areas affected by the construction. These rules will be in place from 7:00 a.m. on September 16, extending until the project’s completion.

Despite the disruption, Mayor Polidori stressed the need for patience and cooperation from the public. “We’ve designed the project with the goal of minimizing traffic issues, but some level of inconvenience is inevitable.”

Looking Ahead

The resurfacing work, which spans from house numbers 8 to 28/C, will also address pedestrian access to private properties, ensuring residents can still reach their homes. Access for emergency vehicles will remain a priority throughout the construction period.

Residents have expressed relief that the work is finally moving forward. “We’ve been waiting for this for years,” said one local resident who attended the meeting. “It’s a major inconvenience, but we understand it’s necessary for everyone’s safety.”

While the project is set to cause some temporary disruptions, local authorities are optimistic that the improvements will result in long-term benefits, enhancing both safety and the overall quality of life in Pisciolon.
