Every Saturday we’re spotlighting remarkable local females who could change the way we look at the world. This Saturday is Julieta Logarzo’s turn. From the bustling streets of Buenos Aires to the serene shores of Trieste, Julieta’s life is a mosaic of science, art, and passion.
The Argentinean Naval Engineer, currently researcher at the Institute of Oceanography and Geophysics (OGS) in Trieste, embodies the harmonious blend of technical expertise and artistic flair. Her journey, marked by significant professional achievements and personal growth, recently garnered recognition from the Associazione Culturale Cinzia Vitale Onlus, which awarded her the prestigious “Spiga di Grano.” This accolade celebrates not just her career but her unique metamorphosis—an evolution that seamlessly integrates her multifaceted interests.
A Professional Journey rooted in Passion and Perseverance
Julieta’s story begins in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where her love for the sea and a natural inclination towards mathematics and physics directed her towards Naval Engineering. Growing up near the Rio de la Plata, she developed a fascination for aquatic and maritime activities, although opportunities were limited. Her ambition and dedication led her to Europe, where she pursued advanced studies in marine renewable energy in France, thanks to a scholarship that allowed her to specialize in structural calculations.
After finishing her Master’s, she officially moved to Paris to work in the maritime and offshore industry. However, her quest for a more meaningful and practical application of her skills brought her to the shores of Trieste. At OGS, Julieta manages sophisticated oceanographic instruments like ocean gliders, contributing significantly to our understanding of marine environments. Her role involves not only the technological and data management aspects but also collaborating with a diverse team of technicians and scientists.
Trieste as a Source of Inspiration
Julieta’s move to Trieste was driven by both her and her partner’s professional opportunities. Initially residing in Pordenone, her first visit to Trieste sparked a deep affection for the city. “I fell in love with Trieste”, she recalls, highlighting the city’s uniqueness. Trieste’s rich culture, history, and its harmonious blend of sea and mountains captivated her, making it an ideal place for someone who cherishes nature.
For her, Trieste is a source of inspiration. She appreciates the city’s openness, its wealth, and the vibrant port-side history which further enriches her experience, reinforcing her decision to settle here permanently.
An Award that Celebrates Transformation
The “Spiga di Grano” award from the Associazione Culturale Cinzia Vitale Onlus stands as a testament to Julieta’s dedicated journey. This honor acknowledges her ability to navigate and adapt through various phases of her career and personal life. It celebrates her evolution from a young professional in Argentina to a dedicated researcher in Trieste, emphasizing her perseverance, focus, and versatility.
An Engineer’s Inner Artist
Beyond her engineering prowess, Julieta is a passionate actress and musician. Her artistic endeavors provide a perfect counterbalance to her structured professional life. “There are two different Julietas, but they complement each other,” she explains. Her background in theater and music, including playing the piano and saxophone, reveals a depth of creativity that enriches her scientific work.
This duality extends to her love for sports, particularly free diving—a pursuit that resonates with her connection to the sea. Trieste’s coastal landscape offers the perfect setting for her to indulge in diving and other aquatic activities, further cementing her bond with the city.
Aspirations Ahead
Julieta envisions a future deeply rooted in Trieste. “I am not planning to move”, she states. She plans to advance her diving skills and possibly become an instructor. Her aspirations also include merging her scientific endeavors with a spiritual dimension, recognizing the meditative and profound aspects of free diving and yoga.
Julieta’s story is a testament to the enriching confluence of diverse passions and professional excellence. Her journey from Buenos Aires to Trieste, marked by significant achievements and personal growth, is a source of inspiration. As she continues to explore and evolve, Julieta remains a shining example of how diverse passions can coexist and complement each other.
