The regional Civil Protection agency has issued a yellow weather alert, effective from 6 PM today until 12 PM tomorrow, September 24, as heavy thunderstorms are expected across the region, with the exception of the province of Trieste.
Meteorologists predict that an Atlantic depression will move towards the Alps, bringing a surge of humid, unstable air from the southwest. Two quick-moving fronts are set to sweep through the area on Tuesday—one early in the morning and another in the evening—followed by a continuation of moist Mediterranean air.
According to forecasts from Osmer, residents should prepare for potentially intense rain and thunderstorms starting this evening and continuing overnight, particularly in the high plains, pre-Alpine regions, and Carnia. As the front approaches after midnight, strong southerly winds are expected aloft, especially over the Julian Prealps, with southeasterly Scirocco winds shifting to southwesterly Libeccio winds.
After a night of storms, a mix of variable weather and the possibility of additional showers is anticipated for the morning. Scattered thunderstorms are likely to develop again in the afternoon, particularly in the eastern part of the region.
Residents are urged to stay informed and take necessary precautions as the storm system moves in.
