The seventh edition of the “Corsa del Ricordo,” a race commemorating historical events in Venezia Giulia and Dalmatia, was unveiled today at a press conference in the Trieste City Council Room. Scheduled for Sunday, September 29, the event aims to blend athleticism with cultural and historical reflection.
The announcement featured key figures including Elisa Lodi, the Municipal Councillor for Real Estate and Sports Policy; Regional Councillors Pierpaolo Roberti and Fabio Scoccimarro; and representatives from various organizations such as the Italian Sports Alliance (ASI) and the National Association of Venezia Giulia and Dalmatia.
In her remarks, Councillor Lodi expressed gratitude to the organizers and attendees, emphasizing the race’s significance beyond mere competition. “The Corsa del Ricordo is not just one of the many events that enrich the city’s sports offerings but also an initiative of great ethical and cultural value,” she stated. Lodi highlighted the importance of keeping the memories of tragic historical events alive, particularly those related to World War II, so that younger generations can learn from the past.
The event, supported by both the Municipality of Trieste and the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia, will also touch several cities across Italy, having already taken place in locations like Rome, Latina, and Milan. After the Trieste leg, it will continue to Novara this November, with plans to reach Tuscany in 2025.
Participants in Trieste will gather at the Basovizza Foiba on September 29, with the race beginning at 9:30 a.m. The course consists of a gravel path stretching approximately 4 kilometers, which runners will complete twice, totaling 8 kilometers. A family-friendly version of the race, featuring a non-competitive 5-kilometer route, will also be available.
Registration for the Corsa del Ricordo is open both on-site and online at the event’s registration page.
