Air travelers in Italy are set to face widespread disruption on Tuesday, September 24, due to a 24-hour strike by airport staff and baggage handlers at several of the country’s major airports. Wizz Air pilots and cabin crew will also join the industrial action, which is expected to cause significant delays and cancelations.
The strike will affect airports in Bologna, Milan (Bergamo, Linate, and Malpensa), Olbia, Rome Fiumicino, and Venice. ITA Airways, the national carrier, has already announced the cancellation of 28 domestic flights, including key connections between Rome and other Italian cities, due to the action.
Wizz Air has pledged to minimize the impact of the strike, but passengers are warned of potential disruptions. The airline apologized for any inconvenience, stating that it is making efforts to maintain essential services where possible.
The industrial action, called by several trade unions, stems from ongoing disputes related to employment contracts and working conditions. Passengers traveling on Tuesday are advised to check with their airlines for real-time updates on flight cancellations and delays.
