The Governor of Friuli Venezia Giulia, Massimiliano Fedriga, highlighted the region’s growing prominence as a cultural and sporting destination during the presentation of the 56th edition of the Barcolana regatta, one of the largest sailing races in the world.
Speaking at the event, Fedriga expressed pride in the series of high-profile events hosted in the region this year. “I have to say that this year we’ve had various important events, and Barcolana is one of those traditional ones of great importance,” he said. He went on to emphasize the significance of the regatta alongside three other key annual events: Gusti di Frontiera, Pordenonelegge, and Friuli Doc.
“These events represent a jewel in the crown for Friuli Venezia Giulia. Every year they repeat, growing stronger and attracting ever more people to our region,” Fedriga stated, underlining the role these occasions play in boosting the region’s cultural and economic profile.
The Barcolana, which transforms Trieste’s Gulf into a spectacle of sailing boats from across the globe, has long been a symbol of the region’s connection to the sea and maritime tradition. Together with Gusti di Frontiera, a renowned food and wine festival; Pordenonelegge, a literary event attracting leading authors; and Friuli Doc, a celebration of local culture and gastronomy, these events mark Friuli Venezia Giulia as a vibrant hub of cultural and touristic activity.
As preparations for Barcolana 56 continue, the region looks forward to welcoming participants and visitors to an event that has become a hallmark of Italian maritime tradition. The synergy of these grand festivals showcases the diversity and richness of Friuli Venezia Giulia, as it draws increasing attention from both locals and international visitors alike.
