The Municipality of Trieste has announced a series of temporary traffic and parking restrictions in anticipation of two major international events: the “Big Science Business Forum 2024” and the “G7 Conference on Research and Capacity Building with African Countries.” Both gatherings, set to draw high-level delegations and dignitaries, have prompted increased security measures, including road closures and parking bans in key areas of the city.

The “Big Science Business Forum 2024” will be held from October 1 to 4 at the Generali Convention Center in Porto Vecchio, while the G7 meeting, focused on research collaboration and capacity building with African nations, will take place on October 2 at the historic Castello di Miramare. These forums will bring together scientists, business leaders, and government officials from around the world to discuss scientific innovation and global cooperation.

The city’s police, under Ordinance No. 999-24, have instituted several traffic measures aimed at ensuring safety and smooth operations throughout the events. These measures include parking bans and road closures, starting from Monday, September 30, and lasting through Friday, October 4.

Key Restrictions:

  • Via di Mercato Vecchio and Via dell’Orologio will be subject to a parking ban from 8 p.m. on Monday, September 30, to midnight on Tuesday, October 1. These areas, located near the regional government offices, will be cleared for security purposes.
  • Via San Carlo will see parking restrictions from Tuesday, October 1, at 8 p.m. until Wednesday, October 2, at midnight. Both sides of the road will be cleared for the duration.
  • The Porto Vecchio-Porto Vivo complex, where the Generali Convention Center is located, will be restricted to public parking from Tuesday, October 1, through Friday, October 4. Exceptions will be made for public transportation vehicles, which will be allowed to access designated areas near the venue.
  • For the G7 conference, Viale Miramare, a major road leading to Castello di Miramare, will be closed to parking starting on October 1, with traffic restricted from 12:30 p.m. on October 2 until the event concludes later that day. The closures affect the stretch between the entrance to Parco di Miramare and the junction with Strada Costiera.

Special exemptions have been granted for emergency services, law enforcement, event-related vehicles, and those with disabled parking permits. Unauthorized vehicles parked in restricted areas will be subject to removal by authorities.

The Municipality has warned that additional changes to traffic regulations may be implemented as needed to maintain security and facilitate the smooth operation of the forums. Local law enforcement will monitor the areas closely and adjust restrictions as necessary.

Both events are expected to attract significant media attention and highlight Trieste’s growing role as a hub for scientific and diplomatic discussions. However, the heightened security measures may cause temporary disruptions for residents and commuters in the affected areas.
