As October rolls in, Trieste looks forward to a fall of exciting cultural and social events, from book presentations to cutting-edge art festivals. Friuli Venezia Giulia capital gets ready for Barcolana, while October is still warm enough for dinner and drinks outside, even a day at the beach. Here are our suggestions, one for each day of the month.

1 Oct. Start the month off right by immersing yourself in culture and visiting the Sebastiao Salgado’s exhibition at the Salone degli Incanti.
2 Oct. For an elegant night out, head to Rossetti theater for the opening of the season with ‘Sior Todero Brontolon’ at 8.30 pm.

3 Oct. Enjoy a multicultural aperitivo at Bar Tergesteo from 7 pm on. Food, drinks and great company guaranteed!

5 Oct. Have a lake Saturday and head to Lago di Cavazzo.
6 Oct. The Miramare Castle is open free of charge today as part of the Domenica al Museo initiative. Go out there and explore!

13 Oct. All eyes on the sea as the world’s biggest regatta Barcolana takes over the gulf today at 10.30 am. Head to Molo Audace or Napoleonica trail for the best views of the gulf.

14 Oct. Enjoy a coffee with a view at Pier.
15 Oct. For a cultural day trip, head to the ancient Roman city, Aquilea.
16 Oct. Explore the underground tunnels of San Giusto Castle.

20 Oct. Take Delfino Verde to Muggia and spend the day exploring the beautiful town by the sea.
21 Oct. Take a long walk from downtown Trieste to Parco Farnetto and enjoy your lunch with mesmerizing views of the gulf.

26 Oct. Indulge in a delicious rebechin at Buffet da Pepi.
27 Oct. Enjoy a fall walk on Napoleonica trail and visit the enigmatic Monte Grisa temple.
