In the heart of Friuli Venezia Giulia, a small but significant initiative is unfolding, drawing the attention of young international artists. The Morus Morâr project, a unique blend of solidarity and tradition, has launched an art competition aimed at creating a new label for a limited-edition wine produced in this tiny village, with a deep focus on community and social inclusion.

The competition, open to artists aged 18 to 35 from across the globe, invites participants to submit original graphic designs that embody the essence of the Morus Morâr wine and the values it represents. The chosen design will not only grace the bottle of this celebrated wine but will also symbolize a community’s commitment to inclusivity and cultural heritage.

Behind the project is a collaboration between the BlueBird Association of Gorizia, the Contea Social Cooperative, the Municipality of Moraro, and the communication agency BrainBank. The wine’s origins date back to 2011, born from a cooperative effort between local wineries and the social cooperative, aimed at integrating disadvantaged individuals into the production process. Today, Morus Morâr is not just a product of excellence but a symbol of social cohesion, inclusion, and tradition.

The project, titled “Moraro: Story of a Cultural and Inclusive Community,” is part of a broader regional initiative, funded by the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region under its Creativity program, which supports cultural and community-building efforts.

The Competition

Participants have until October 16 to submit their designs. The winning piece will feature on the label of a limited batch of Morus Morâr bottles, each hand-labeled by disadvantaged individuals in a nod to the project’s central mission of inclusion. The label will also appear in promotional materials and exhibitions, offering the winning artist international recognition.

Moreover, the competition presents a career-building opportunity: the selected artist will be offered a professional role supporting the cultural and creative initiatives of the BlueBird Association, particularly as they prepare for GO! 2025, a major cultural event in the region.

A Deeper Meaning

The competition’s scientific committee, composed of communication and marketing experts, wine industry professionals, and representatives of project partners, will evaluate submissions based on their creativity, originality, and ability to convey the values of the Morus Morâr project. These values include solidarity, inclusivity, and a deep connection to agricultural traditions and local heritage.

“This is more than just a label design; it’s a chance to visually capture the spirit of a community that has embraced solidarity for years,” said a spokesperson for the BlueBird Association.

The Morus Morâr wine is deeply rooted in its local context. The small village of Moraro, known for its volunteer associations and commitment to social causes, has long upheld a tradition of inclusiveness. The wine, created by involving disadvantaged individuals in its production, stands as a testament to this enduring community spirit.

The art competition offers young creators the chance to connect with these values, while also helping to raise awareness about the social inclusion efforts that have quietly transformed this village over the years.
