The University of Trieste will take center stage at the 56th edition of Barcolana, one of the world’s largest sailing regattas, with a series of events blending sports, culture, and cutting-edge innovation. From October 5 to 13, the university will host daily talks and presentations in Piazza Unità d’Italia, transforming a striking blue booth into a hub for intellectual exchange.

In collaboration with athletes, journalists, and researchers, the university will explore key issues such as scientific innovation, sustainability, and social inclusion. Among the notable guests are Paralympic gold medalist Matteo Parenzan, journalist Paolo Condò, and former swimming champion Novella Calligaris. The initiative is part of the university’s Centennial celebrations, reflecting its deep-rooted connection to the city and its vibrant cultural and sporting life.

One highlight is the unveiling of Aura, an electric race car developed by UniTS Racing Team students, showcasing advancements in sustainable mobility. Additionally, Bai-Flying Lina, the world’s first moth-class boat featuring sustainable materials, will be on display.

On October 10, a unique Dragon Boat race will feature student teams from diverse backgrounds, promoting inclusion through sport. The event underlines the university’s commitment to fostering global cooperation and addressing the challenges of tomorrow.

Barcolana, known for drawing thousands of spectators and participants from around the world, serves as an ideal backdrop for the University of Trieste’s dynamic presence, where academia and athleticism meet innovation and social impact.
