The fire department of Trieste faced an intense overnight operation between October 3 and 4 as fierce bora winds swept through the city, triggering emergency calls from across the region.
Firefighters began responding to requests for assistance in the late afternoon of October 3 and continued working throughout the night. By 7:30 a.m. the following morning, the command had handled around 100 interventions, ranging from fallen trees to damaged structures. Despite their relentless efforts, more than 20 calls for help remained pending, as the fire department’s operations center continued to field an overwhelming number of requests.
Throughout the night, the firefighting force operated with five teams, supported by two ladder trucks and additional equipment from the Trieste command. Reinforcements also arrived from the nearby city of Udine, sending a team to assist in managing the emergency.
The powerful bora winds, a phenomenon well-known to Trieste, often wreak havoc during the fall and winter months. This latest storm, however, has proven to be particularly destructive, requiring an extraordinary response from emergency services.
As the winds began to subside, city officials praised the firefighters for their tireless efforts, but warned residents to remain cautious as clean-up efforts continue.
