Barcolana 56, one of the world’s largest sailing regattas, officially kicked off today in Trieste, as strong Bora winds swept across the Gulf of Trieste, setting an exhilarating tone for the 10-day event. With 1,280 participants already registered, the regatta is on track for another year of record-breaking participation.

The opening ceremony, held at the Società Velica di Barcola e Grignano (SVBG), included the traditional flag-hoisting and was followed by a showcase of kitesurfing, wingsurfing, and windsurfing athletes, all benefiting from the powerful gusts that mark the region’s autumn weather.

Barcolana 56 will see a wide range of sea sports and cultural events, including the highly anticipated Barcolana SUP Experience and Barcolana Young, which are set to take place tomorrow. In keeping with this year’s theme of inclusivity, several events have been organized to ensure accessibility for participants with disabilities, with special attention to Paralympic sailing.

The Guardia di Finanza’s vessel Nice made a high-profile arrival, adding prestige to the regatta. The event will culminate in the renowned race on October 13, attracting a global audience of sailors and spectators alike.

Key highlights include a free public concert by Italian band Subsonica in Piazza Ponterosso tonight at 7 pm and the display of a Solaris 50 yacht in Piazza Unità, symbolizing the region’s shipbuilding excellence.

Barcolana 56 promises to be a spectacular celebration of the sea, blending sport, culture, and community.
