The Barcolana Festival kicked off this weekend with the second edition of the Barcolana Grado SUP Experience, where 135 participants, more than double last year’s number, competed in a 2.2-mile stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) race along Grado’s coastline.
Mauro Feltrin, a naval engineer from Latisana, retained his title, leading the race from start to finish on a custom-built board. Natasha Cesar was the first woman to cross the line in her debut appearance. The event, which featured challenging wind and currents, highlighted the growing popularity of SUP at Barcolana.
Mitja Gialuz, President of the Barcolana Sailing Club, called the event a success and expressed ambitions to make it the world’s most attended SUP event within five years.
The Barcolana Festival will continue throughout the week, leading up to the main sailing regatta in Trieste on October 13.
