The Maxillofacial Surgery Clinic at Ospedale Maggiore in Trieste has undergone a colorful transformation, thanks to four autistic young adults who painted murals as part of a regional job integration program. The artists, selected for their creativity in a digital illustration course, were guided by a tutor to create works that promote the theme of smile care.
The project, led by the Giuliano Isontina University Health Authority (ASUGI), the University of Trieste, and the city’s Integration and Employment Insertion Service (SIIL), provided an opportunity for the participants to gain both professional skills and personal growth. ASUGI offered an inclusive work environment and the necessary materials, while SIIL facilitated the initiative as part of its mission to connect people with disabilities to the labor market through personalized internships.
These murals not only beautify the clinic but also highlight the importance of workplace inclusion, underscoring the value of diversity in professional settings.
