Trieste Airport has achieved a significant milestone, welcoming its one-millionth passenger since the beginning of the year, setting a new record for the airport located in the northeastern Italian region of Friuli Venezia Giulia. The figure surpasses the airport’s previous record of 932,767 passengers in 2023.
To mark the occasion, airport officials held a ceremony to honor the one-millionth traveler, Ms. Susanna Serri, who was flying from Trieste to Rome Fiumicino on an ITA Airways flight. As part of the celebration, Ms. Serri was presented with two complimentary round-trip tickets for a new route connecting Trieste and Dubai, via Rome. ITA Airways is set to launch this new service in November.
According to Trieste Airport representatives, the new Trieste-Dubai connection is part of a broader strategy to expand the airport’s international reach. With four daily flights to Rome and two to Milan, passengers will have increased access to long-haul destinations via Italy’s major airports. The Dubai connection is expected to provide further opportunities for travel to Asia and other global destinations.
Speaking at the event, Marco Consalvo, CEO of Trieste Airport, highlighted the importance of the achievement. “Reaching the one-million-passenger mark is a significant milestone for us, and it reflects the rapid and solid growth of the airport,” he said. “We anticipate closing 2024 with 1.3 million passengers and are already looking ahead to new connections for the summer of 2025 to further enhance Trieste Airport’s accessibility and modern infrastructure.”
The airport’s expansion comes amid increased efforts to attract more international travelers and improve connections with major global hubs. Antonio Marano, President of Trieste Airport, was also present at the ceremony, reinforcing the airport’s commitment to expanding services and improving travel options for passengers in the region.
As Trieste Airport continues to grow, officials are optimistic about the future, with further developments expected to increase both passenger numbers and connectivity in the coming years.
