Trieste’s Giuseppe Verdi Opera House continues its symphonic season this Friday with a concert that bridges the city’s rich musical history and its forward-thinking spirit. The evening, conducted by rising talent Tommaso Turchetta, features a compelling program that spans from local 20th-century composer Cesare Barison to Igor Stravinsky’s Symphony of Psalms.
The concert commemorates the 50th anniversary of Barison’s death and the 150th anniversary of his birth, celebrating his pivotal role in shaping Trieste’s post-war musical life. Also featured is Sandro Fuga’s Toccata for Piano and Orchestra, performed by his son, Giacomo Fuga, in a rare revival of the 1952 composition.
Istrian-born composer Luigi Dallapiccola’s Five Fragments of Sappho, written during World War II, and Stravinsky’s psalm-based symphony round out the program, showcasing a blend of lyrical beauty and neoclassical structure.
“Remembering our past as an inspiration for the future is crucial,” said Artistic Director Paolo Rodda. “This concert is a reminder of Trieste’s commitment to innovation and artistic courage.”
