The University of Trieste has once again secured its place among the world’s top universities, landing in the 501-600 range in the 2025 Times Higher Education (THE) global rankings. This marks a significant achievement for the Italian institution as it continues to gain recognition on the international stage.
The rankings, which assess over 2,000 universities worldwide, are based on five key criteria: quality of teaching (29.5%), research environment (29%), quality of research (30%), knowledge transfer to industry (4%), and international outlook (7.5%). This year, Trieste saw its scores in both teaching quality and research environment increase, areas that make up 60% of the overall evaluation. The university’s teaching quality score rose from 31.9 to 33, while its research environment score improved from 25.1 to 26.4.
“These results highlight the strength of our institution and its growing impact in both education and research,” a university spokesperson said in a statement.
The rankings only consider 2,092 institutions out of more than 20,000 universities globally, placing the University of Trieste in the top 28% of universities reviewed. With this result, the university reaffirms its commitment to academic excellence and its role as a competitive player in the global higher education landscape.
The University of Trieste’s upward trajectory comes at a time of increasing competition in the higher education sector, where international collaboration and the ability to adapt to new challenges have become more crucial than ever.
