The Barcolana Regatta, one of the world’s largest sailing events, continues to captivate the Gulf of Trieste with thrilling races and a strong focus on inclusion and sustainability.
Amid challenging weather conditions, the second day of the event saw two-time Olympic gold medalist Caterina Banti highlight the theme of gender equality in sailing. Banti, speaking as part of the “Women in Sailing by Generali and Barcolana” initiative, emphasized that men and women bring complementary strengths to sailing, stating, “Physical strength can be compensated with technique and training. The true strength lies in balance and communication.”
Today’s races included the Barcolana Solaris Adriatic Cup and the Barcolana Maxi – Trofeo Portopiccolo, where top teams competed under demanding conditions, with winds of 12 to 25 knots. In the Solaris Adriatic Cup, Solaris Giovi, skippered by Paolo Bastiani, claimed victory, while in the Barcolana Maxi, Anywave-Safilens, led by Alberto Leghissa, held the top spot after the second round.
Meanwhile, the Barcolana Sea Summit, a major conference focused on environmental sustainability, continued to attract large crowds. Over a thousand students and 600 participants gathered to discuss climate action and renewable energy, reinforcing the event’s commitment to fostering a dialogue between the younger generation and the maritime industry.
Barcolana 2024 concludes this weekend with its signature Autumn Cup, expected to draw hundreds of boats from across Europe.
