The city of Trieste has embarked on a new forestation project in Farneto Park, aiming to improve biodiversity and address climate change. Supported by Arca Fondi SGR and Civibank, the initiative involves the planting of 750 trees in one of the city’s key green spaces. This effort is part of Mosaico Verde, a national campaign focused on reforesting urban areas and restoring natural ecosystems.

Key representatives from Arca Fondi SGR, Civibank, and sustainability consultancy AzzeroCO2 were present at the project’s inauguration. The goal is to restore Farneto Park’s ecosystem by enhancing air quality, promoting biodiversity, and creating a habitat for local wildlife. The trees, primarily oaks, were selected for their resilience to climate change and ability to thrive in the local environment.

“This project contributes to improving urban green spaces, while addressing environmental challenges,” said Simone Bini Smaghi, Deputy General Manager of Arca Fondi SGR. The initiative is part of a broader effort by Arca Fondi SGR, which has planted over 12,000 trees across Italy since 2021.

Civibank, a certified B Corporation, also emphasized its role in fostering local sustainability. “Forestation projects like this reflect our commitment to both the environment and the communities we serve,” said Luca Cristoforetti, General Manager of Civibank. The bank, known for its focus on environmental and social responsibility, partnered with Arca Fondi SGR to support the initiative.

The project, part of the European “LIFE Terra” program, seeks to address the broader ecological challenges cities face, such as climate change and habitat loss. Elena Piazza, Forestation Project Manager at AzzeroCO2, explained the importance of urban forests. “Green spaces play a vital role in regulating the urban climate and supporting biodiversity,” Piazza said.

The trees are expected to help improve air quality, reduce soil erosion, and enhance the natural landscape of Farneto Park, offering a more sustainable urban environment for residents. This forestation effort is a step toward strengthening the connection between Trieste’s urban areas and its natural surroundings, contributing to the city’s long-term environmental goals.
