The 2024 edition of the Camminata tra gli Olivi (“Walk Among the Olive Trees”) will take place on Sunday, October 27, bringing together local communities to celebrate the region’s olive-growing heritage. The event, presented by Deputy Mayor Serena Tonel at the Chamber of Commerce Venezia Giulia on Wednesday, aims to highlight the cultural and health significance of olive oil production in Friuli Venezia Giulia.
The walk, part of a national initiative by the Città dell’Olio Association, invites participants to explore olive groves across the region, with stops at historical sites in Trieste and San Dorligo della Valle-Dolina. A guided tour of medieval Trieste will include visits to an old olive press and the Sartorio Museum, followed by a conference featuring experts from the Italian Liver Foundation and the Italian League for the Fight Against Cancer (LILT). They will discuss the health benefits of extra virgin olive oil, including its role in preventing metabolic diseases like fatty liver.
The event will conclude with a visit to the Fior Rosso farm, where attendees can tour the olive groves, learn about cultivation practices, and sample locally produced olive oil. Participation is free, with reservations required due to limited spots.
The initiative reflects a broader effort to preserve olive-growing traditions and promote the health benefits of quality olive oil, which has earned the region national recognition despite its small production volume.
