On Sunday, November 3, the city of Trieste will come alive with celebrations honoring Saint Justus, the patron saint of the city, alongside the 106th anniversary of Trieste’s redemption to Italy. The day’s events will begin with a solemn pontifical mass at the Cathedral of San Giusto, scheduled for 10:30 AM, presided over by Archbishop Monsignor Enrico Trevisi. Trieste’s mayor, Roberto Dipiazza, is expected to attend the service, which marks a significant cultural and spiritual moment for the city.
The commemoration of the 106th anniversary of Trieste’s redemption will also be a central theme of the day’s festivities. The program kicks off with a solemn raising of the flag in Piazza Unità d’Italia at 10:00 AM, where honors will be rendered by an armed contingent from the Second Regiment of Piemonte Cavalry.
In the afternoon, at 4:00 PM, the Tricolor Relay will feature athletes from the ASD Gruppo Sportivo San Giacomo. They will embark from the Cathedral and traverse a route through the city, culminating in a celebration at Piazza Unità d’Italia at approximately 4:25 PM. This relay not only highlights local athleticism but also serves as a poignant reminder of the city’s rich historical narrative.
At 4:30 PM, a ceremony will take place at the Bersagliere monument, located at the Royal Staircase in front of Piazza Unità d’Italia. Attendees will lay wreaths to honor fallen soldiers, reinforcing the significance of remembrance in Trieste’s collective memory. Following this, at 5:00 PM, the solemn lowering of the flag will occur, accompanied by the Gonfalone of the City of Trieste and representatives from various military and combat associations. The Eleventh Bersaglieri Regiment of Orcenigo will render honors, marking the occasion with dignity and respect.
The commemorative events will continue into Monday, November 4, designated as National Unity Day and Armed Forces Day in Italy. A solemn celebration at the Military Shrine of Redipuglia will commence at 10:00 AM, featuring the Gonfalone of the City of Trieste. The municipal administration will be represented by Maurizio De Blasio, the Councilor for Education and Family Policies.
