Trieste Airport announced on Thursday a new direct flight route to Lamezia Terme, set to launch in late March of 2025, further strengthening its expanding network. Operated by Ryanair, the biweekly flights will link Friuli Venezia Giulia region with Calabria, in the country’s south, underscoring the airport’s growth strategy in Southern Europe.

Starting on March 30, the route will operate on Wednesdays and Sundays, adding another destination to the airport’s busy summer schedule. This latest route expands Trieste’s offering to 26 direct destinations, underscoring its position as a regional travel hub, serving not only Italian travelers but also those from neighboring Austria, Slovenia, and Croatia.

“We are thrilled to announce this latest addition to our airport’s growing network,” said Marco Consalvo, CEO of Trieste Airport, in a statement on Thursday. “Lamezia Terme is our fourth new route for the summer of 2025 and follows recent additions like Bucharest, Rotterdam, and Stockholm.”

Ryanair’s new Lamezia Terme route brings the airport’s Southern Italian connections to eight cities, alongside Bari, Brindisi, Cagliari, Catania, Naples, Olbia, and Palermo. This expansion provides travelers with a wide array of destinations while boosting regional tourism.

Economic Growth Amid a Challenging Decade

Trieste Airport has reported consistent financial growth despite recent challenges. Between 2019 and 2023, a period that included two years of pandemic-related disruptions, the airport generated a profit of €8.5 million. Consalvo noted that the airport’s expanding network, which now includes 10 domestic and 16 international routes, positions it well for the future.

Trieste’s passenger numbers are projected to surpass 1.3 million by the end of 2024, with expectations of sustained growth in the coming years. “We are committed to building a robust connection network to foster economic vitality and solidify Trieste Airport as a gateway for Italian and international travelers alike,” Consalvo added.

Tickets for the Lamezia Terme route, as well as other new summer offerings, are now available on Ryanair’s website and app.

About Trieste Airport’s Expanding Network

The airport’s continued expansion aligns with broader European travel trends, which have seen increased interest in destinations across Southern Europe. Trieste’s newly announced routes to Lamezia Terme, Bucharest, Rotterdam, and Stockholm reflect a strategic effort to diversify and enhance its connections both within Italy and abroad, tapping into markets with high demand for leisure and business travel.

As Europe’s aviation sector recovers and passenger numbers continue to climb, Trieste Airport’s growth positions it as a major transit point for northern Italy and the wider Adriatic region, offering accessibility and convenience to travelers across Central Europe.
